About our cause
Building for the Future 'Our House' provides a much loved and valued service for the community. We offer a welcoming, safe haven for over 500 of the area’s children and young people with disabilities but we’re running out of room. Plus, there are more families and groups needing our help from across Wokingham Borough.
‘Our House’ is a place where they can play, learn and develop life skills. It's also a place where families and carers can access free support and services. Many consider us as a ‘lifeline’.
Building for the Future is moving to a new 'Our House' on Thames Valley Park that will allow us to expand our free services to more of the area’s disabled community. Having a much larger, safe and purpose-built facility will increase confidence and the mental wellbeing of disabled children and young people.
We’ve signed a new 15 year lease on a 3,500sqft facility (with a wrap-around garden!) that will be fully inclusive and more accessible.
But….. it is going to be more expensive to operate and your entry to the raffle will help us to continue to make our service completley free to residents of Wokingham Borough without any compromise and feel welcome and celebrtaed.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Building for the Future has been chosen as the official charity of the new Wokingham Borough Mayor, Councillor Carol Jewell, for 2025/26!
Mayor Jewell called us “a perfect choice for a mayor’s charity,” recognising our work with disabled children, young people, and their families — and we couldn’t be more honoured!
Our CEO, Jane Holmes, says: “Building for the Future is entering a period of significant growth and expansion over the coming year as we move into bigger and better premises. “These are very exciting times for us, and of course made more so by this huge honour.”
